Treating spider veins is similartodental care in that there is an ongoing effort required to keep looking good! Radiofrequency energy is used for the vein removal to heat up and damage the walls of the veins. RF energy travels through a thin tube (a fine needle like object) which gets introduced into a small incision in the vein this can be painful so local anaesthetics are used to numb the area. The after-effects are minimal and most clients can immediately resume their daily lives.

The main issue with spider veins is that with most people susceptible to them, once treated, new veins can form over time which require further treatment. Our patients usually experience an excellent clearance of their spider veins and go on to enjoy many years of great-looking legs, however some patients are less fortunate. This is simply due either to their genetics, to prolonged use of the oral contraceptive pill or specific life events such as pregnancy.

What is RF vein removal?

Vein removal uses radiofrequency (RF) ablation (heat is used to damage the tissue which makes scar tissue and that closes the vein off) which is a minimal invasive treatment.

How is RF vein removal done?

Radiofrequency energy is used to heat up and damage the walls of the veins. RF energy goes through a thin tube (hair fine needle like object) which gets inserted into a small incision in the vein. Local anesthetics are used to numb the area.

How does VEIN REMOVAL procedure work?

A very fine (hair-like), needle delivers a microburst of energy to the small vein. The resulting heat causes the vein to collapse and disappear.

How long does the procedure take?

The Procedure is usually quick with minimal discomfort and irritation; patients will typically only need one session per area to see immediate results.

Are there any side effects?

The top layers of the Epidermal skin are not affected, but patients sometimes experience slight redness after the procedure. In most cases the redness disappears in a few hours.

Is it a painful procedure?

The treatment can be sensitive as it is a heat treatment. The client should not feel anything as we do numb the area.

How long is the treatment?

The treatment time depends on the work that has to be done. Bigger areas will need more treatments than smaller areas.

How long does it take before I can resume to my daily schedule?

Most clients can immediately resume to their daily tasks. You therapist will advise you to do some walking exercises but nothing strenuous.

What are the risks to such a treatment?

Clients who struggle with thrombosis, infections, phlebitis, paresthesia, vessel perforation, pulmonary embolism and hematoma should consult with their doctor before considering the treatment.

What are the side effects to RF vein removal?

he client might experience some bruising and the area will be slightly red. These effects subside within a few days. Recovery time and side effects are minimal.

How many treatments will I need?

The therapist analyzes the area and then gives the client the prescribed treatments that would be needed as every client is different. For big areas with elevated veins, one treatment would be enough. The fine spider veins are a bit more stubborn and more treatments would be required. On average clients need about 3 -5 sessions which are scheduled every 4 – 6 weeks. Appointments are scheduled far apart to ensure the best results and to make sure that the skin has properly healed from the previous treatment.

How much is the cost per treatment?

Depending on the area and the time spent. For an hour session it cost R750.00
